It’s a late-winter-friday evening, after work. We are still home tired and packing for the weekend. We would have wanted to leave that night, but because of procrastination and tiredness.. let us leave just Saturday morning 🙂
The Ceahlau mountains are perfect for winter trips. With the highest peak at 1907m, a nice hut placed on the main ridge, usually full of nice people, guitars and songs, it’s a best alternative if you want to experience winter hiking without facing rocky ridges and technical climbings.
We have chosen a shorter trip until the hut because of late arrival: the blue triangle from Izvorul Muntelui, a ~4h estimated track for summer, 6-7h in winter. See map here.
We arrived to the Dochia hut after 21:00, where we had found a hall full of happy people singing. Hot soup, “slanina” with onion.. what would you need more?
Two of us slept outside of the hut in a tent, in -10C and freezing wind. After all it was a cool experience in both meanings, but do it just if you have the necessary equipment.
In addition: the atmosphere from Dochia hut, Ceahlau 🙂

Of course, with a backpack.
